25th Annual 5 Star and 10 Step Competition
Sunday 28th May 2006 Horspath Track
Highgate Harriers youngsters age 8-14 years travelled to Oxford to try out their skills in the multi event awards competition. The Top three athletes in each age group receive a medal and try to acheive 10 steps or 5 stars on their certificates.
Young Athletes travelled from clubs as far away as Leeds, Liverpool and The Forest of Dean to participate.
In U10 Boys Daniel Lavin-Bronze Medal-3rd overall in age group and a 5 Star Award. He won his 75m sprint (11.5) and a left the opposition behind in a spectacular 800m of (2.54). Daniel trains with Kate Jenrick.
In U14 Girls Eucalypta Bradley-Bronze medal- 3rd overall in age group and a 5 star award -only 7 points between the top 3 athletes-She over came an unfortunate injury during longjump to gain a total 217 points. She won shotputt (8.57m)(Pb)then ricked her back in practise but long jumped(3.99m) (pb) and managed to carry on win 75m Hurdles in (13.4s).
10 Step Competition
Lizzie Quacquarelli (age 8 yrs) received a 7 step award-for 50m jog,object pick up, Cricketball throw, Standing longjump and 800m jog.
5 Star Competition
Boys U10
Daniel Lavin -Bronze medal- 3rd overall in age group & a 5 star award. Won his 75m (11.5) and 800m (2.54) races.
Peter Laing, best performance was the 800m, (3m22).
U10 Girls
Shaye Annereay gained a 4 star
Lulu Szego 3 star, excellent effort in 800m
Emily Steinhouse gained her first experience on the track

U11 Boys
David Calder-la Croix, 4 star. won hurdles
U11 girls
Natalie Steinhouse steady performances.

Leo Ritson-Turnell 4-stars 800m (2:56.3 - pb), 200m (32.5s), Long Jump (3.39 metres)
U13 Boys
Roland Ritson Turnell 4-stars 800m (2:48.3), Javelin (19.21 metres), High Jump (1.10 metres)
U13 Girls
Amy-Jane Cotter Long Jump (3.64m - pb) and 800m.
Unfortunatley, Amy-Jane missed her 70m Hurdles race which on current form would have placed her highly in the awards.
